Health Is Wealth Program

Health is wealth is a common proverb which reveals a very simple meaning by comparing the value of health with wealth. It is said in this proverb that the health of a man is as important as wealth to live a healthy, peaceful and prosperous life. Everyone knows that nothing is more important in life than good health. No one can be happy and peaceful without good health. 'Health' is a state of complete physical, social and mental well being and it is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

India has made rapid strides in the health sector since independence but access to health care still remains a challenge. In India 70% of the population lives in rural areas and has no or limited access to hospitals and clinics. India faces a high burden of disease because of its poor educational status, gender inequality and explosive growth of population. Besides this, lack of health insurance and its low penetration causes further challenges to access to health care. With 75 percent of the Indian population paying for health care services from their own pockets, it puts a tremendous financial burden.

Under its Health is Wealth program, Destitute India is moving forward with two motives: first to bring quality health care services to the doorsteps of the needy, and second to promote health care awareness and contemporary health care seeking behavior among the underprivileged.

• Destitute India organizes workshops in different parts to motivate people to use safe drinking water.
• Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan we are educating people about domestic hygiene and to eradicate the practice of open defecation in India.
• Organizes blood donation camps and motivates people to donate blood.
• We are providing primary health care with a special focus on children and women, in urban slums and remote rural areas.
• Destitute India is also providing financial help to cure lethal diseases for the less fortunate.
